Rate : $31 / Hour on W2 (Without Benefits)
Job Description :
Directly responsible for enforcement of Arizona Revised Statutes 5-105 (A) and Arizona Racing Commission rules and regulations to ensure that collection of samples from animal is performed properly and with integrity.
Major Responsibilities :
Assist in collection of test samples (blood, urine and hair) from animal.
Follow best practices for test barn operations to ensure proper handling of test samples to maintain the chain of custody. Maintain chain of custody records. Package and ship samples securely to test laboratory. Maintain lab area organization and cleanliness.
Keep veterinary exam records and gather injury risk information for animal inspections; assist with injury review meetings.
Enforce Arizona statutes and regulations regarding horse racing and report any violations to State Veterinarian or Stewards.
Assist state veterinarian with split sample processing.
Assist investigators with inspections of backside barn facilities for possible violations.
Notify trainers when animals are placed on the veterinarian's list. Respond to inquiries from trainers, owners, and veterinarians regarding proper procedures for regulated activities including medical procedures that require observation.
Knowledge, Skill, Ability :
Arizona Racing Commission rules and regulations and applicable Arizona Revised Statutes governing animal.
Veterinarian's duties.
Racing animal anatomy.
Identify horse racing animals using National Association registration documents.
Investigative techniques, procedures, and ability to prepare accurate records.
Handle and control excitable animals.
Breeds and racing equipment used in racing.
Horsemanship. Identifying animals by registration certificates, markings, tattoo, calyx, dimples, and other characteristics.
Proper handling of animals. Interpretation of track procedures.
Continuity of evidence.
Observation and detecting violations of rules and regulations in Paddock area.
Present a pleasant impression and conduct duties courteously and temperately.
Organize work priorities to accomplish multitude of activities.
Make efficient judgments.
Develop reports.
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to follow procedures within the test barn and lab facilities.
Handle detailed work accurately and in a timely manner.
Adapt to changing assignments and priorities.
Respond to inquiries with tact, diplomacy, and appropriate timely information.
Work as a team player within several divisions.
Organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks daily.
Establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with agency staff and the public.
Follow verbal and written instructions and complete assigned tasks accurately.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Requirements :
Arizona Board of Veterinary Medicine Certified Veterinary Technician license.
High School Diploma.
