Description : Under the direction of the on-duty Charge Nurse, the RN administers nursing care to patients in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner using proper nursing procedures. Specific Competencies : Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient's immediate condition or needs. Notifies the physician of abnormal findings. Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the patient's condition and prioritizes care accordingly. Develops a plan of care that is individualized for the patient in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Performs appropriate treatments as ordered in an accurate and timely manner. Provides individualized patient and family education. Documents patient assessment findings and progress towards problem resolution. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to appropriate protocols. Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient's and family’s diversity. Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift. Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care. Attends departmental and hospital meetings and educational in-services. Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested and qualified when the need arises. Maintains current CPR and ACLS status. Works with other departments to coordinate the transfer of patients for procedures or diagnostic tests. Assumes professional responsibility for assuring patient care is of the highest standards possible. Communicates questions about the appropriateness of medical or nursing care through the chain of command as needed. Follows procedures for medication administration and documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Supervises non-professional staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Maintains knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation. Cares for outpatients requiring blood transfusions according to policies and procedures. Professional Requirements : Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional. Completes annual education requirements if applicable. Maintains regulatory requirements. Wears identification while on duty. Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time. Attends all meetings as appropriate. Exhibits the organization’s mission, ethics, and goals in the performance of job duties. Working Conditions : Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Must function independently, demonstrate personal integrity, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel. Physical Requirements : Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks, and moves intermittently during working hours. Able to lift 50 lbs.
