Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a School Counselor at Orange County High. This full-time position involves providing support and guidance to students in their academic, personal, and social development. The ideal candidate will foster a positive school environment, promote student well-being, and collaborate with educators and parents to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Candidates who hold a license as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, psychologist, or another licensed counseling professional are eligible to obtain a provisional license in school counseling through the Virginia Department of Education.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
- Develop and implement comprehensive school counseling programs that align with the school's mission and goals.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify student needs and create tailored intervention plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student achievement and well-being.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations on topics such as college readiness, conflict resolution, and mental health awareness.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Stay informed about community resources and refer students and families to appropriate services as needed.
- Participate in school committees and contribute to the development of school policies and programs.
- Monitor student progress and provide follow-up support to ensure successful outcomes.
- Advocate for students' needs and promote a safe and inclusive school environment.
Requirements
Master's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor.Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, counseling techniques, and educational practices.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, including students, parents, and faculty.Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.Proficient in using technology and software for record-keeping and communication.Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in school counseling.Previous experience in a school setting is preferred.
