Job Title : Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Certifications : BLS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitoring

Must-Have : OB nurse experience, skills in Labor & Delivery, Mother Baby care, Newborn Nursery, and Couplet Care.

Description :

Unit specific requirements include BLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring for Labor & Delivery.

The facility may cancel one shift every other week.

The nurse will be responsible for 15-17 births per month.

The nurse will perform duties in Labor & Delivery as well as Mother Baby care, Newborn Nursery, and Couplet Care.

Gynecology surgery patients will also be part of the responsibilities.

In the absence of patients, the nurse may float to Med / Surg.

If the nurse is not comfortable taking on Med / Surg patients, they will assist with vital signs, medication administration, and other tasks.

The maternity unit requires a collaborative approach where the nurse will work in conjunction with an LPN.

The RN will handle all responsibilities within their scope for laboring patients, triage, and mother-baby care.

The LPN will support the RN by assisting with evaluations, turning patients, and documentation.

Initial assessments need validation by the RN.

If additional help is necessary, staff can request assistance from a Transfer Coordinator.

In emergencies, the LPN typically accompanies the patient to the OR, allowing the RN to remain on the unit for any incoming triages.

The small unit environment necessitates creativity, but excellent support and resources are available.
