The Role in Brief

We are looking for an experienced executive to shape our business development strategy and scale revenue to the next level. The candidate filling the role will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for constructing and executing detailed strategies for sales and customer success. The primary sales focus will be our Software as a Service offering, covering a range of innovative and integrated transportation modules. We have begun to form strategic alliances which will help our software to achieve deeper levels of market penetration. We believe this will disrupt the industry. Thus, we need a champion for this software who knows the market and can immediately drive substantial revenue growth.Initially, the role will complement the CEO's ongoing sales efforts without the benefit of a broader sales team. As such, the Director will be responsible for all sales activities, from generating leads to executing deals and integrating client feedback into our product development cycle. Within two years the Director of Business Development will be tasked with building out a team of Account Executives across enterprise and mid-market sales. The successful candidate must be excited by the initial sales-team-of-one aspect of the job and the ability it provides to create an outsized influence on our bottom line and our future sales and staffing profile.Two other primary areas of responsibility include partnership accounts and customer success, which we see as intrinsically linked with sales. A successful sale results in a successful customer, and at times, that success will come through the resources and solutions provided by our partners. The Director must be well-versed in our partners' offerings and in how our Customer Success team is doing to ensure positive outcomes for our clients.AlphaRoute is a lean organization which prides itself on the ability of our staff to skillfully perform multiple functions. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • 5+ years' professional experience in either a leadership role in school transportation or in a sales or customer support role in school transportation or an adjacent industry.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills and an extensive network in transportation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to discuss and explain difficult situations with clients and other key stakeholders.
  • An understanding of public procurement rules and practices.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven work environment, tactfully balancing a range of sometimes competing priorities
  • Solid knowledge of CRM software and MS Office.
  • Magnetic personality, instilling confidence in others.
  • Loyalty, both to customers and to the organization and its mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plans and strategies for growing business and achieving sales and customer success goals.
  • Own the customer experience and bring feedback from clients to our development teams, fueling our constant cycle of improvement.
  • Manage external partners to increase revenue, including those across non-direct sales channels (e.g., Licensing and Distribution).
  • Establish and maintain partnerships and relationships with key customers and suppliers.
  • Assist in the writing and submission of proposals.
  • Resolve client problems and handle complaints in a timely manner.
  • Take part in AlphaRoute's sales event / conference activities and help plan the calendar for such activities throughout the year.
  • Recruit and manage an emerging sales team.
  • Analyze market trends and customer behavior to identify new markets and opportunities.
  • Know the competition and develop winning strategies to outsell them.
  • Compensation

    The role will feature a mix between salary and bonuses and an excellent benefits package.

    Location

    The Director of Business Development position will be based in our Waltham office outside of Boston. The role will entail travel.
