American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Neurocare position requiring a CA RN license and strong neuro patient care skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 36-bed Med Acute / Neurocare unit within an acute care hospitalPrimary patient population includes stroke, other neurological disorders, epilepsy, overflow med / surg, overflow COVID, and toxicology patients such as those experiencing ETOH withdrawals or overdosesTypical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4RNs are responsible for titrating drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, Argatroban, and ProtonixUse of Cerner EMR is requiredRNs must read and interpret their own EKGs, with support from tele / monitor techsRT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators when needed; RT staff provide support and vent training is available as necessaryShifts are 12 hours, starting at 0700 or 1900, with every other weekend requiredSelf-scheduling with manager oversight to balance coverageFirst to float, with required floating to all MS / Tele units within the Sacramento region as neededNavy scrubs required with navy, white, or black undershirts and navy scrub jackets optionalResponsibilities include providing comprehensive neuro-focused nursing care, including EKG monitoring and titration of complex dripsTravelers will receive 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation and training on vents if necessaryMust rotate for holiday coverage with core staffRNs will float to other medical-surgical and telemetry units as census dictates across the Sacramento regionCharge nurse may take patient assignments as neededNurse aides are available for support, with a ratio of 1 : 18No call or standby requirements for this assignmentPassing sterile technique testing is required on the first day of orientationFirst-time travelers will be consideredIf Relias Dysrhythmia and / or sterile technique exam is failed twice, candidate will be ineligible for assignments in the CommonSpirit Sacramento region for six months\n \n Requirements\n
Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses are not acceptedCurrent certifications required : BLS, ACLS, and NIHSSMinimum 2 years of acute care RN experience requiredPrior experience caring for neuro patients, including stroke and other neurological disorders, is requiredExperience with titrating cardiac and neuro-related drips requiredAbility to read and interpret EKGs independentlyExperience with Cerner EMR requiredMust provide 2 professional references : one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 yearsCopy of valid driver's license required for considerationMust complete and pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with up to two attempts allowed (results must show number of attempts taken)Cannot have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities within the past year\n Benefits\n
