To promote and maintain the health and well-being of students by providing individualized and proactive nursing services, with a focus on equity, compassion, and professional excellence. The Assistant School Nurse Substitute will support the implementation of care plans, monitor medical needs, and collaborate with staff and families to ensure a safe and inclusive school environment for all students.
Primary Responsibilities :
Health Services and Care Coordination
- Administer direct nursing care to students in accordance with medical protocols, Individual Health Plans (IHPs), and physician directives.
- Conduct student health assessments and monitor chronic conditions as appropriate.
- Maintain up-to-date medical records and oversee medication administration in compliance with school policy and state / federal law.
- Provide emergency care and first aid for illness or injury occurring during school hours.
- Communicate health concerns effectively with parents / guardians and school personnel.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers to support student wellness and learning.
- Support the integration of health care needs into the student's educational program, particularly for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with the lead school nurse and special services teams in planning and delivery of services.
Support for Student Learning
Assist students in meeting their medical needs so they can fully access instructional programs.Understand and respect the diversity of student needs, identities, and experiences, particularly for students receiving special education or 504 services.Support the instructional team by providing health consultation in educational settings when needed.Professionalism and Compliance
Follow all district, state, and federal regulations regarding student health, confidentiality, and professional nursing practices.Maintain current certification in CPR / AED and First Aid.Ensure accurate and confidential record-keeping aligned with FERPA, HIPAA, and school policy.Participate in relevant professional development and contribute to a school culture of learning and collaboration.Serve in supervisory or support roles as assigned during the school day or for coverage needs.Qualifications
Valid and current RN or LPN license issued by the State Department of Public Health.Certification in CPR / AED and First Aid.Experience working with children and adolescents preferred; ability to relate well to students with diverse health and learning needs.Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, families, and staff.Demonstrated understanding of inclusive and culturally responsive practices in school health settings.Salary
