American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with charge responsibilities and advanced cardiac skills required.
Responsibilities
Work in a cardiac and medical Progressive Care Unit (ICU stepdown) within a short-term acute care hospitalNight shift, 4x12 hour block schedule from Thursday to SundayPatient ratios are 3 : 1 (max 4 : 1); charge nurses may have a limited patient assignment depending on staffing, with a typical ratio of 2 : 1Patient cases include heart caths, cardiac and vasoactive drips, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygenUses Cerner for electronic chartingFloating within hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals is requiredNo on-call requiredWeekend work is requiredSpecialized procedures may include IV starts, cardiac and vasoactive drips, conscious sedation, and ventilator managementResponsibilities include providing specialized care for cardiac and critically ill patients in a true ICU stepdown environmentCharge nurses lead the team and may be required to take limited patient assignments during staffing needsAll travelers expected to float as needed within facility or to nearby affiliatesCandidates must be willing to work two out of three major holidays; Christmas is guaranteed offFirst-time travelers are encouraged to applyRed scrub top and black bottoms required for uniformFree parking availableMust be away from any previous perm or PRN employment at IU Health for at least 12 months before applying as a travelerTime off requests (RTO) of five non-holiday days or less are auto-approved; more than five require facility approvalRequirements
Active IN or Compact RN license in hand at time of considerationMinimum 18 months of recent PCU experience requiredCharge nurse experience requiredCurrent AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferredExperience with telemetry, cardiac drips (e.g., Levo, Dopa, Nitro, Cardizem, Amio), BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, Level I-IV acuity, and ventilators preferredExperience using Cerner EMRNursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNEMust not be a current local IN resident; local candidates not accepted for this unitMust provide two supervisor referencesBenefits
