Manufacturing Engineer – Space Hardware 2nd Shift, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. The Manufacturing Engineer will lead SECOND SHIFT assembly integration and test flows for space hardware builds . This individual will work closely with and manage engineering and manufacturing teams to integrate Kuiper satellites with dispenser and launch vehicle hardware.

The Manufacturing Engineer is a technical leader of the team providing guidance on many aspects including but not limited to testing requirements assembly / integration workcell design within the payload processing facilities facility and equipment planning integration and test application implementation and improvement process control design for manufacturability project management and tooling design.

The ideal candidate is comfortable in a highly technical setting and leads collaboration with other departments to reach the best solution to any problem and is able to technically challenge assumptions and requirements of these departments such as dynamics and thermal analysis design engineering and tooling engineering.

Additionally a Manufacturing Engineer is expected to set objectives for the team overall not only identifying the right long term strategies but implementing them on their assemblies and responsibilities leading by example first and then by instruction. Theyll have extensive experience in space hardware integration and test with particular focus on satellite to dispenser and / or launch vehicle integration.

Key job responsibilities

• Working with engineering teams plan and optimize workstation layouts for Assembly Integration & Test (AIT) to intended throughput capacities.
• Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition spacecraft and dispenser level assembly & test.
• Implement and continuously improve assembly integration and test processes
• Specify and procure various assembly equipment and systems to meet program development requirements
• Interface with facilities personnel in site usage and integration flow.
• AIT takt time & cost optimization planning
• Definition & implementation of Work Order and automated documentation processes.
• Payload compliance certification sign-off
• Anomaly resolution and corrective action implementation
• Assist in hiring personnel (engineers and technicians) related to above tasking.

A day in the life

The Manufacturing Engineer Manager will spend significant amounts of time collaborating with engineering quality and manufacturing to test satellites dispensers and oversee hardware integration. They will oversee their assembly integration and test workstation address root cause of failures and issues and implement production control and optimization strategies. They will be the front line lead to deliver their space hardware product value stream implementing engineering best practices in a safe and repeatable manner implementing efficiency improvements and reducing non-conformances.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128600 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $213600 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
