Description

The primary purpose of the Library Student Worker is to assist the library staff with circulation and collection maintenance, basic reference and writing center help, and provide staffing support in the evenings and weekends.

Essential Functions :

• Assist in circulation functions, including checkout of materials to patrons, check in of books and other materials, shelving returned books
• Shelf read shelves to assure correctly shelving of materials
• Answer basic questions for patrons; refer more difficult questions to one of the librarians
• Assist students with the reference collection
• Assist patrons needing help with the library catalog
• Assist patrons needing help with the databases
• Assist students with formatting their papers using APA / Turabian
• Assist students with editing their research papers
• Assist patrons with printing / copying and collect money from student's printing or copying
• Answer the circulation desk phone
• Open / close library

Marginal Functions :

Qualifications

1. Experience and skills with computers, especially word-processing, and some familiarity with databases.

2. Ability to clearly communicate vocally and in writing.

3. Ability to work in a team environment.

4. Some understanding of library and research functions.
