EPIC experience is required for first-time travelers. Travelers must live 100 miles away from the facility. Description : 64 beds spread across 2 floors. This is a mixed acuity unit, including Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and MedSurg patients. Surgical patients may include urology, prostatectomy, bowel obstruction, mass removal, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and general abdominal surgeries. Ortho patients may include total joints such as knees, hips, shoulders and orthopaedic trauma cases. Neuro / Spine patients may include CVA / TIA, potential neurovascular interventions, seizures, brain tumors, hemorrhages, and spinal surgeries. Post-neuro intervention experience is preferred, but education and resources will be provided if needed. General medical patients may include those with cellulitis, influenza, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure, hepatic failure, DVTs, and more. Wound care and wound debridement, as well as telemetry-monitored patients, are also included. Patient ratios are 1 : 4 and CNA 1 : 8. Comfortability with MedSurg assignments is required. Previous experience with the specific patient types mentioned above is necessary. Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips is required. Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomy care, NGT tube placement and management, and line management is expected. Wound care / dressing changes and medication administration knowledge are needed. Drip titration experience with medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Amiodarone is expected. Support on the unit includes a pod structure; 8 patients per pod with 2 RNs and 1 Nurse Aide. Charge nurses are available, and a flex nurse is staffed daily. Phlebotomy services are available, and respiratory therapy is provided. The charting system is Epic, and prior approval is required before consideration. Floating may occur to any adult inpatient unit, including MedSurg, Ortho / Neuro / Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, and Observation. Scheduling is done on a 6-week basis with weekend rotation for travelers. Travelers may be scheduled for up to four weekends out of six and must indicate willingness for weekend work. No mandatory on-call time is enforced; however, staff may be placed on call for extra shifts if needed. Holiday time off must be requested prior to the offer. Blackout dates apply during specific events, and time off cannot be approved. Compliance audits are conducted monthly regarding pain scoring with a goal of 90% compliance.
