About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to oversee all legal and compliance matters. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish and lead an in-house legal department, providing essential legal and strategic advice to management, team members, and the Board of Curators. This part-time role, averaging 20 hours per week, requires a professional with a strong background in general corporate law, the ability to identify legal issues across various domains, and experience in handling a diverse range of legal matters. The General Counsel will also be responsible for corporate governance, compliance, and the development of risk management strategies.
Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a minimum of five years' legal experience and be licensed to practice law in Wisconsin. A background in reviewing grant and cooperative agreements, as well as experience in labor and employment and intellectual property matters, is preferred. Knowledge of federal and state laws affecting nonprofit organizations, particularly those related to fundraising, is a plus. The role demands excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. The General Counsel will be a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the strategic planning and annual objectives that align with the company's mission and global reputation.
