Description :

At Cocoon House we work with youth, young adults, and families in Snohomish County to break the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing, prevention, and education. The Youth Engagement Team works one-on-one with young people experiencing homelessness, and the Navigators will provide support and guidance in finding housing and addressing the issues that contribute to homelessness, including financial, medical, legal, and educational needs, with the final goal of establishing a permanent housing solution for that individual.

The Juvenile Justice Navigator will work with youth and young adults experiencing homelessness, with a focus on youth under the age of 18, to navigate systems, coordinate service delivery, and otherwise support the young person throughout their journey to permanent housing stability. The Juvenile Justice Navigator will also work closely with and act as point of contact for Snohomish Countys Juvenile Justice system, building the majority of their caseload with referrals from Denney Juvenile Justice Center. The Youth Navigator will conduct outreach in various locations and with relevant community partners to build a caseload of about 20-30 young people currently experiencing homelessness or at high risk to experience homelessness.

Juvenile Justice Navigator Duties & Responsibilities :

Full-Time 40 hrs / week | On-site in Everett, Snohomish County

Wages : $21.50-$23.50 / hr | +$1.50 / hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork

  • Establish and maintain a professional, supportive relationship with youth involved with the juvenile justice system.
  • Provide youth-driven case management to youth on caseload with a focus on gaining stable housing. Continue working with youth until they are stably housed and able to maintain housing.
  • Identify and connect other supports as needed, both natural and professional. Coordinate care with services youth access.
  • Collaborate effectively with Cocoon House programs to ensure seamless, unduplicated service delivery to youth and young adults in our programs and the community.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners with an emphasis on those associated with the juvenile justice system. Provide education and promote Cocoon House programs with community partners.
  • Complete all paperwork and data entry in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Attend all necessary meetings and strive for clear communication with all involved parties.
  • Collaborate with UW Research.

  • Requirements :

    Skills needed to be successful in this role :

  • Demonstrated experience working directly with teens and young adults experiencing homelessness.
  • Familiarity with the Juvenile Justice System and related community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from variety of backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Strong communication skills, including crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with youth, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to paperwork, data accuracy, and time management.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, positive youth development, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing principles preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience relevant to the populations we serve are encouraged to apply.
  • General :

  • High school diploma / GED or high school equivalency
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • DCYF background check clearance
  • Acceptable driver's abstract with no more than 2 violations within last 3 years
  • Possess a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Physical :

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all internal and external clients
  • Be able to hear voices and alarms.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of materials
  • Ability to operate phone, computer, and record information for files and logs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 Ibs
  • Must have ability to run up and down indoor and outdoor stairwells in case of youth emergency.
