Job Title : RN - MedSurg / Tele Profession : Registered Nurse Specialty : MedSurg / Telemetry Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift : 36 Experience : Minimum of 2 years Med / Tele RN experience License : RN License (Associate's degree at a minimum) Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have : - Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) test completed during onboarding - Strong clinical assessment and time management skills - IV insertion and Maintenance skills - Cardiac monitoring and interpretation - Care coordination with the interdisciplinary team - Discharge planning knowledge and patient education Description : This position requires a Registered Nurse with experience in MedSurg and Telemetry. The unit has 16 beds with an average census of 16 patients. Common patient types and diagnoses include chest pain, syncope / vomiting, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, and post-operative care. The RN patient ratio is typically 1 : 4-6. Candidates should possess skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips, and heparin drips. Nurses are expected to manage drips to titrate to heart rate. Support within the department includes CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding. There is a unit secretary available during specific hours and a charge nurse who may or may not have patient assignments. Phlebotomy and IV teams are not available, but a PICC team is present. Resource nurses and discharge nurses are available to assist. Respiratory therapy and hospitalists are available 24 / 7. Telemetry monitoring is managed by a central unit. The EMR system is Epic, with various monitoring and medication dispensing technologies in use. All adult MedSurg / Telemetry units may require floating. Staffing requires weekend rotations and holiday expectations, including work on major holidays. Requests for time off need manager approval. Work culture is busy but emphasizes teamwork. The unit is designed for high turnover of patients and may receive patients from the emergency department awaiting inpatient admission.
