Description :
Under general direction, performs Sterile Processing Department duties.
Duties include manual decontamination, operating mechanical washers, assembly, packaging, and sterilization.
Operates various sterilizers, performs equipment and instrument quality inspections, orders supplies, and distributes reusable surgical instrumentation and medical devices.
Follows sterile processing and infection control policies.
Interprets, maintains, and documents sterilization records in the electronic instrument tracking system.
Provides for and tracks reusable instrumentation across various clinical areas and outpatient clinics.
Aims to provide positive patient outcomes by meeting the needs of physicians, clinical units, and ancillary areas.
Job Responsibilities :
Performs equipment quality tests, including cleaning washer screens and spray arms.
Conducts daily washer protein tests and sterilizer maintenance checks.
Utilizes mechanical washers, ultrasonic washers, high and low-temperature sterilizers, and other related equipment.
Retrieves and receives used instruments and patient equipment in an aseptic manner.
Demonstrates independent functions in decontamination procedures.
Documents reusable medical devices when received in decontamination via the instrument tracking system.
Demonstrates that instruments are washed and disinfected prior to assembly and sterilization.
Cleans using department-specific enzymatic detergents and brushes.
Dons appropriate personal protective equipment during decontamination.
Loads and utilizes ultrasonic baths and washer disinfectors to make instruments safe for assembly.
Performs quality inspections on each instrument and instrument category.
Assembles procedural instrumentation, power equipment, and surgical implants according to manufacturer instructions and appointed count sheets.
Conducts quality inspections after wrapping or containerizing sets prior to sterilization.
Ensures sterility is achieved by selecting the correct sterilization method and monitoring sterilizer function.
Interprets and documents mechanical and testing results.
Ensures sterility and aeration in the Ethylene Oxide sterilization process.
Performs, observes, and assesses safe work practices and regulatory compliance regarding Ethylene Oxide gas handling.
Maintains certification in the safe operation of Ethylene Oxide sterilizers.
Performs visual inspections to check for appropriate chemical indicator color changes.
Distributes sterile instruments to respective units in an aseptic manner.
Cleans, disinfects, stores, distributes, and tracks reusable durable medical equipment.
Maintains inventory and appropriate storage of sterile items in anticipation of distribution.
Responds to routine and STAT requests.
