Job description

Please note : NSORNA Nisqually's Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires all individuals who have been convicted of a sex offense to register with our Public Safety Department. This is true whether or not you have to register with any other jurisdiction.

ICW / Vulnerable Adults. This position has regular contact with or control over Indian Children and Vulnerable Adults. In compliance with Federal Law, this position will not be filled by an applicant with any felonious offense or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses under Federal, State, or Tribal Law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact, or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children.

  • This position requires a fingerprint check, which is a standard procedure for many jobs, especially those involving children or vulnerable populations.

The Nisqually Indian Tribe is developing a Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility on Pacific Ave in Olympia, Washington to address the opioid crisis within the Thurston County area. The Nisqually Indian Tribe is passionate about developing a whole person recovery model, keeping all services under one roof so the patient has the best possible chance of recovery. Our goal is to bring healing and wellness to the community, focusing on the entire family by serving tribal and non-tribal patients.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Patient Transporter will be transporting patients throughout the local area to and from Nisqually Generations Healing Center appointments in a safe and timely manner. Drivers will be guided by established schedules and follow state laws as well as organizational policies.

This position ensures confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, later hours or weekend time may be required, and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transports patients inside and outside of the facility to designated areas in a punctual and timely manner.
  • Ensures that patient transportation is conducted with the utmost care and in full compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Instructs passengers in requisite safety precautions and practices while riding in Nisqually Wellness Center vehicles.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with patients and coworkers to improve quality of service and customer satisfaction.
  • Comforts patients and their families by offering support and encouragement; being punctual and attentive to procedure schedules; demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity.
  • Respect and protect patient confidence and hospital confidentiality by keeping all sensitive and patient information private.
  • Follows all protocols and procedures to ensure safe delivery of patients, their possessions, supplies and laboratory specimens.
  • Operates the Wheelchair lift in accordance with established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains discipline, reports all passenger behavior issues to management.
  • Conducts mechanical condition inspections daily, such as checking vehicle fluid levels and verifying complete and accurate operational performance.
  • Ensures that assigned vehicles meet regular maintenance schedules and keep operational records.
  • Immediately reports all delays and any accidents incurred.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have complete drivers' abstract history from Washington DOL with five (5) years of verifiable driving experience.
  • One-year work experience in medical / para transport, passenger transport, emergency vehicle operation, or relevant experience.
  • Current CPR qualified or complete First Aid and CPR certification within the first 60 days.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • The ability to work with vulnerable populations including adults and children.
  • Must pass a State and National (FBI) criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.
  • SUPERVISION

    This position does not supervise others.

    COMPETENCIES

    Knowledge of :

  • Understanding of state laws and organizational policies related to patient transport.
  • Knowledge of all traffic and highway safety rules and precautions to avoid accidents.
  • Knowledge of established schedules for timely patient transport.
  • Familiarity with the layout of Nisqually Generations Healing Center and other local healthcare facilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, and property.
  • Tribal, Federal, and state laws, codes, and regulations.
  • HIPAA and PHI requirements. Knowledge and adherence to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2)
  • Common office and administrative procedures.
  • Trauma and its impact on wellness and recovery.
  • Skilled in :

  • Proficient driving skills, with a focus on safety and compliance with traffic laws.
  • Ability to effectively use maps and GPS for efficient route planning.
  • Strong skills in managing time to ensure punctuality for patient appointments.
  • Operating a personal computer and standard office programs and equipment.
  • Organizational management practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Motivational interviewing (MI) skills or a desire to learn MI.
  • Ability to :

  • Capability to assist patients in and out of vehicles and transport any necessary equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize safety for both patients and themselves during transport.
  • Skill in communicating clearly and compassionately with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to quickly address and resolve any issues that arise during transport.
  • Work in a computer-based environment, especially Microsoft Windows.
  • Work in a cross-cultural environment and understand the social and cultural contexts of patients.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks amidst frequent interruptions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and external agencie
  • Maintain personal, professional, and ethical boundaries.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and / or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions. This person may regularly lift and / or move up to 30+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus.
