Job description

What we do :

The mission of Inner Spark Learning Lab (fka STEM to the Future) is to support elementary and middle school aged Black and brown youth in realizing their inherent freedom and potential, guiding them towards self-actualization and personal revolution. We foster environments where youth can explore their identities, align with their purpose, and develop the confidence and skills to create their desired realities for themselves and their communities. Our social justice and STEAM-based learning experiences equip Black and brown elementary and middle school-age students with insight to solve issues of equity within their communities.

Our Team :

ISLL is founded and led by educators and creatives from diverse backgrounds who share a deep passion for youth and their capacity to do amazing things. Our team values discovery, open communication, empathy and creativity in everything we do. We’re united by our shared values, a deep commitment to our community, and to our mission of motivating and inspiring Black and brown youth to create the world they want and deserve. Our employees include athletes, parents, artists, writers, activists, and more.

Role Overview :

We are looking to collaborate with enthusiastic, passionate, individuals who are committed to helping students reimagine and create the communities they want and deserve.

Brick by Brick is a health justice program for 3rd-5th grade students. In this program, youth explore the intersections between health, food and the environment. This year we are looking for someone to facilitate an environmental justice podcasting program where youth will become investigative reporters and storytellers as they explore how environmental issues affect health, food systems, and their communities. Students will research, interview, and create their own podcast episodes that amplify community voices and raise awareness about environmental justice issues they care about.

Bloom  is a creative design class for 4th-6th grade students. This year we are looking someone to expose our youth  to a variety of sustainable fashion and jewelry design methods (e.g., upcycling techniques, natural dyeing, and jewelry making from recycled materials) before creating a wearable project of their choice that raises awareness about a social justice issue that is impacting their community.

Build ‘Em Up Robotics   is a  coding and programming program for 3rd-5th grade, where youth will learn about computer science, web development, and app creation as they collaborate and develop a digital project of their choice that raises awareness about a social justice issue that is impacting their community.

If you have a passion for working with youth, recognize their collective genius, and are ready to help them pave the way to liberation through STEAM and community building, we’d love for you to submit a proposal.
