Job Overview - Occupational Therapist (Special Education & Sensory Impairments) :
Compensation : $60 - $70 / hour
Location : Bronx, NY
Schedule : Flexible full-time and part-time shifts available
Provide specialized therapy as an Occupational Therapist (Special Education & Sensory Impairments) with our client in Bronx, NY. Deliver individual and group interventions for students with visual impairments, multiple disabilities, and sensory processing needs. Assess abilities, create IEP aligned plans, and collaborate with educators, providers, and families to build independence and daily living skills. Use assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and electronic documentation to track progress and meet Medicaid / IDEA requirements.
Responsibilities as the Occupational Therapist :
- Deliver Targeted Interventions : Improve neuromuscular function, sensory processing, fine motor skills, and coordination to support daily living and classroom participation.
- Support Vision & Sensory Needs : Adapt therapy for students with blindness or low vision, integrating sensory programs and perceptual development strategies.
- Utilize Assistive Tools : Assess, recommend, and implement adaptive equipment, orthotics, and assistive technology to promote independence.
- Ensure IEP Alignment & Compliance : Design interventions that meet IEP goals and maintain accurate Medicaid / IDEA documentation and progress reports.
- Collaborate with Families & Teams : Consult with parents and work closely with educators and interdisciplinary teams to integrate therapy into activities.
Qualifications for the Occupational Therapist :
Education : Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program required.Licensure : Current New York State Occupational Therapist (OT) license required.Certification : NBCOT certification required, with CPR certification preferred.Experience : 1+ years in pediatric occupational therapy, preferably in special education or with visually and multiply impaired populations.Technical Skills : Skilled in the use of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and electronic documentation / EHR systems.Industry Knowledge : Strong understanding of IDEA, IEP development, sensory integration techniques, and vision-specific therapeutic strategies.Skills & Attributes : Collaborative, strong communicator, receptive to feedback, and dedicated to promoting student independence and skill development.Application Notice : Qualified candidates will be contacted within 2 business days of application.
