Salary Range : $51096.00 - $64489.00 Yearly. Individuals new to state service start at the minimum of the pay plan.

Link to Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer Job Specification : State of Connecticut UConn Library is seeking applications for a Buildings & Grounds Patrol Officer to join a dedicated team that serves and supports the UConn community in its use of Library facilities and services at the Storrs campus. The Buildings & Grounds Officer works under the general direction and reports to the Head of Facilities & Security enforcing the facilities and environmental policies of the UConn Library as mandated by the Library Administration to maintain an environment that is conducive to an academic setting. The incumbent is responsible for being familiar with the University of Connecticut regulations and Connecticut State Laws to maintain a degree of safety in the Homer Babbidge Library.

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services / Essential Staff. The individual in this role must be willing to work during emergency closures / delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights weekends holidays). The schedule for this position is listed below with an hourly rate of $24.48 which is non-negotiable.

Mon. Wed. 8 : 00PM-2 : 30AM Sat. 9 : 30AM-4 : 00PM Sun. 9 : 30AM-5 : 30PM (34 hrs. / wk.)

Non-Academic Hours :

Mon. Wed. 3 : 30PM-9 : 30PM Sat. 9 : 30AM-5 : 30PM Sun. 9 : 30AM-5 : 30PM (34 hrs. / wk.)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enforce regulations relating to the control of state property.
  • Assist library patrons and the general public.
  • Guard entrances and exits to prevent trespass vandalism theft and other violations.
  • Perform routine patrol of the library; check mechanical systems monitor alarm systems and report troubles to the appropriate departments.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures which may include the Dodd Building the Music and Dramatic Arts Library and the Pharmacy Library. Checking mechanical systems monitoring alarm systems reporting troubles to the appropriate departments and securing all interior and exterior doors.
  • Enforce library policies related to eating and drinking smoking disruptive behavior and use of classrooms and library space as well as the Universitys student code of conduct.
  • Write accurate incident reports and maintain security logs.
  • May assist Police and Fire Departments in emergencies such as building evacuations suspect searches and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain the Librarys lost and found.
  • Provide escorts for staff and student workers as needed.
  • Provide first aid when necessary.
  • Perform dispatching and record-keeping functions at a desk port.
  • Sign for and receive deliveries in the absence of the Mail Services Coordinator.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any experience or training that would provide the skills and abilities indicated above in the Knowledge Skill and Ability section.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in recording and checking inventory and securing property.
  • Demonstrated experience working with building environmental systems including monitoring and reporting malfunctions.
  • Demonstrated use of the Internet current technology and basic software as needed for the position.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting a diverse and inclusive population.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering reliable and service-oriented written and verbal communication and displaying strong interpersonal skills.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operators license.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and / or CPR certification.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have general good health be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength stamina agility endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be exposed to the attendant discomforts of working outdoors to the effort of prolonged periods of walking and standing while on foot patrol and / or guard duty and to some danger of injury in performing the duties of the class.
