The Registered Nurse (RN) will work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising patient care within a nursing unit or department, adhering to unit policies and procedures. The RN will also supervise non-RN personnel and may need to take on a charge nurse role to delegate and oversee unit activities. Flexibility to work in different nursing units may be required depending on staff and patient distributions. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout their care journey.
- Develop, communicate, and document a tailored plan of care that addresses individual patient problems and interventions, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Implement and coordinate this plan of care in partnership with the healthcare team.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care, the patient's response to treatment, and their readiness for discharge, making adjustments as necessary and facilitating referrals.
- Assess individual learning needs and readiness of patients and families to plan appropriate educational opportunities and document their outcomes.
- Serve as a preceptor to new staff members.
- Function effectively as a Charge Nurse as required.
- Meet and exceed performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal and professional development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure smooth operations on the unit.
- Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients.
- Exhibit skills and knowledge in neuro assessments.
- Display proficiency in airway management for neuro patients.
- Show understanding in managing care for patients with tracheostomies.
- Assist physicians during special neuro procedures, demonstrating skill and understanding.
- Understand and apply knowledge from the 'TIA' teaching program.
- Perform suctioning procedures according to established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate skill and knowledge in utilizing equipment for patients in a halo brace.
- Understand nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
Education : Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Proficiency in using computer software including electronic patient records and the ability to conduct literature searches regarding patient care.
Experience : N / A
Licensure : Valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Connecticut.
Special Skills : BLS certification required.
Additional Information : Experience in Med / Surg nursing is required.
