Title : Assistant Professor and Department Chair, Radiologic Technology

Unit : Full-Time MCCC Day Faculty

Department : Academic Affairs, Health Division

Reports to : Dean of Health

General Summary : The Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Radiologic Technology Department is responsible for overseeing the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of the Radiologic Technology program which includes the program's curriculum and clinical facility in Bedford, MA. The position requires a creative and knowledgeable individual with a positive approach to provide management for the Radiologic Technology program, and support the college's strategic initiatives. The Radiologic Technology Department Chair is expected to exhibit initiative, enthusiasm, and teamwork in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position. The individual who serves in this position must be committed to excellence, student engagement and success. The Radiologic Technology Department Chair is responsible for interviewing and making staffing recommendations for all part-time positions. These duties are performed in the fall and spring semesters. Additional compensation is provided for coordination duties performed in the summer session and between semesters.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Teach the equivalent of twelve credits per semester and fulfill all contractual obligations as a member of the college faculty. This position provides for one reassigned time per semester.
  • Participate in professional development activities and remain current in one's area of expertise.

Administrative Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with the Dean of Health by contributing expertise in the review and evaluation of faculty course materials.
  • Participate in the recruitment of diverse program faculty that reflect the student population.
  • Schedule, orient, evaluate and mentor program part-time faculty.
  • Develop and prepare program / department assessment (internal Academic Program Review and external accreditation) and accreditation materials.
  • Proactively ensure program compliance with accreditation standards and licensure requirements
  • Conduct on-going program assessment, including assessment of program student learning outcomes, enrollment and retention tracking.
  • Participate in budget planning and manage a discretionary budget, i.e. order classroom, laboratory, and clinic supplies as appropriate.
  • Department / Program Responsibilities :

  • Provide academic leadership and administrative direction for faculty and students within the department.
  • Provide leadership in the systematic assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Organize, administer, review, develop, and assure program effectiveness.
  • Oversee the development and improvement of departmental curriculum.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor departmental policies and procedures that support effective, responsive, high quality education.
  • Trend and analyze data on student retention, completion, employment, and success on national certification exam.
  • Schedule and chair department meetings.
  • Provide guidance in the selection and ordering of textbooks for program courses.
  • Collaborate with student support areas, e.g. Tutoring, Enrollment, Testing, Advising, and other departments as needed
  • Coordinate laboratory support, i.e. personnel, equipment purchase and repair.
  • Serve on relevant search committees and college committees.
  • Participate in college recruitment activities, i.e. open houses, K-12 partnerships, visit high schools, and industry as appropriate
  • Develop and implement grants for the department / program as appropriate.
  • Plan and conduct program orientation with faculty assistance.
  • Maintain and chair a Rad Tech advisory board with bi-annual advisory board meetings
  • Organize and develop clinical placements and coordinate with external agencies, evaluate and assure clinical education effectiveness.
  • Develop and renew articulation agreements with area high schools and four-year institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation organization requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of discipline through continued professional development.
  • Other duties within the program as needed or assigned by the division dean.
  • Requirements :

  • Holds, at a minimum, a master's degree.
  • Three years' clinical experience in the radiologic technology field.
  • Two years' experience as an instructor in a JRCERT accredited program.
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration, or equivalent, in radiography.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Proficient in curriculum design, evaluation, instruction, program administration, and academic advising.
  • Experience teaching in a JCERT accredited Radiologic Technology program at a community college.
  • Additional Information :

    Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Salary Range : $75,232 is the starting salary in column H for an Assistant Professor with a Master's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
