What you will do :

The Legislative Affairs and Policy Coordinator is responsible for coordination of legislative and policy activities for the Office of Community Services (OCS). This is a highly professional position that reports to the OCS Staff Director, supporting the Assis tant Secretary for OCS to ensure timely completion of legislative requests, development of strategic policy initiatives, and timely completion of legislative analyses and policy projects. The coordinator collaborates with all OCS programs including Adul t Protection, Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Homelessness, Continuing Care, and Hope Florida, as well as programs across the Department to accomplish tasks and goals.

How you will make an impact :

Coordinate legislative and policy functions for the Office of Community Services including development and implementation of a strategic policy plan, development and responding timely to legislative requests and constituent issues.

Develop, draft, review, edit, and analyze policy and legislative proposals. Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations legislative proposals and adjustments to policy. Respond to legislative inquiries and brief Assistant Secretary on responses. Organize legislative planning and work collaboratively with all programs to ensure effective and timely implementation of the annual regulatory plan and post-session policy changes. Prepare documents, implementation plans, briefs, and other materials for executive leadership. Briefs Assistant Secretary on status of policy projects.

Qualifications :

  • Prior experience working with the State of Florida.
  • Report writing and editing experience.
  • Knowledge of LBR's and Policies.
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge of administrative principles and practices; office procedures and practices. Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis. Knowledge of correct grammar and report style editing. Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to manage confidential information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices. Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials. Ability to conduct fact-finding research. Ability to solve problems and make decisions. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently. Candidate Profile (application) must be completed in its entirety.
