OB / GYN Laborist

An OB / GYN Laborist is a board-certified obstetrician / gynecologist who provides inpatient care for women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. Unlike traditional OB / GYNs, laborists work exclusively in hospital settings, offering 24 / 7 coverage to ensure timely and safe obstetric care.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide direct inpatient obstetric care, including labor management, deliveries (vaginal and cesarean), and postpartum care.
• Perform obstetric triage evaluations and respond to obstetric emergencies.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, midwives, and other physicians to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
• Cover for community OB / GYNs who are unavailable during their patients’ labor.
• Manage unassigned patients or those without a designated obstetrician.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help develop labor and delivery protocols.
• Educate residents, medical students, and nursing staff as needed.
