About the Role
The Company is in need of a part-time General Counsel with a focus on insurance policy, legislative, and regulatory affairs. The successful candidate will be the organization's chief legal advisor, playing a key role in the development of model legislation, and ensuring the legal integrity of all initiatives. This position is particularly suited for a retired insurance attorney or regulator, a current or former legislative staff counsel, or someone returning from a professional hiatus. The General Counsel will have the opportunity to engage with state-level lawmakers, industry stakeholders, and regulatory experts in a collaborative, policy-driven environment.
Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a minimum of 10 years' of relevant legal experience, with a strong understanding of state-level insurance law, particularly the McCarran-Ferguson framework. Excellent communication and drafting skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. The role is open to a less experienced lawyer with a minimum 4-year background in insurance law or public policy, though this would be on a nearer to full-time basis. The ideal candidate will be able to integrate this role into their portfolio without conflicts and should be prepared for a part-time, on-site commitment of two days per week, with the balance of work being remote.
