Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Position Summary :

The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding activities meet the required quality and safety standards. This role involves inspecting welds, verifying compliance with applicable codes and specifications, and maintaining detailed documentation of inspection results. CWIs play a critical role in maintaining structural integrity and regulatory compliance across fabrication and construction projects.

Aerotek is working with multiple companies in Lancaster County looking for CWI's for direct hire and contract-for-hire opportunities.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Visual and Dimensional Inspection :

Conduct visual inspections of welds and components to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry codes (e.g., AWS, ASME), and customer requirements

  • Code and Specification Interpretation :
  • Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications to assess weld quality and procedural compliance

  • Documentation and Reporting :
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, including DFT (dry film thickness) readings, weld maps, and non-conformance reports. Prepare detailed inspection summaries and communicate findings to project stakeholders

  • Welding Procedure Oversight :
  • Review and verify welding procedures and welder qualifications. Ensure that welding personnel are certified and operating within approved parameters

  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) :
  • Utilize or supervise NDT methods such as dye penetrant, magnetic particle, or ultrasonic testing to evaluate weld integrity

  • Collaboration and Communication :
  • Interface with project managers, engineers, CAD designers, and clients to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement

  • Compliance and Safety :
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards. Support audits and quality assurance initiatives.

    Qualifications :

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential required or the ability to obtain certification within a defined timeframe
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in welding or fabrication.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, weld symbols, and using calibrated measuring tools.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Preferred Attributes :

  • Experience with government, DOD, or military fabrication standards
  • Familiarity with modular construction or structural steel environments.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard computer software used for documentation
  • Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 / hr.
