Ability to titrate drips. Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is desired but not required. Description : The Surgical Intensive Care Unit serves various patient populations. Common diagnoses include cardiovascular surgery, trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and ENT surgery. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 2, with 1 : 1 for higher acuity patients. All registered nurses care for post-operative heart patients. Nurses are required to monitor their own patients' telemetry and read rhythm strips. A charge nurse is present on each shift and may occasionally take patients based on needs. An Intensivist is in-house 24 / 7 to provide support. Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7 in the unit. Weekend and holiday shifts are required every other occasion, depending on willingness. There is a floating requirement, which may involve working in MICU or as a patient observer. The dress code emphasizes a clean and professional appearance without specific color requirements. Orientation will include system onboarding and unit-specific training.
