About the Role
The Company is seeking new members for its Governing Council, which is the top decision-making body of the organization. The Council plays a crucial role in ensuring that the foundation and its associated standard-setting entity are aligned with their vision, mission, and values. This includes conducting strategic planning, monitoring progress, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks. The ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to the ethics of sustainability, particularly in the textile sector, and will be expected to govern collectively and independently, with a focus on good governance practices. Essential competencies for Council members include leadership experience, expertise in areas such as sustainability, VSS setting, assurance, and proficiency in English. Desirable competencies may include experience in civil society or business, with a focus on driving change in social and environmental sustainability. Candidates for the Governing Council of the company should be prepared to make a significant time commitment, averaging 8 person-days per year, and must be willing to serve for a term of four years, with the possibility of renewal. The role requires a high level of engagement, including attendance at in-person and online meetings, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for the foundation's mission, the ability to think creatively and strategically, and a strong personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. While previous experience in the textile sector is not mandatory, a background in standard setting and regulations is advantageous. The Council is particularly interested in candidates who can bring a unique perspective on social or environmental sustainability in the textile industry, independent of commercial or government interests.
