The Role
As a Data Engineer at Trillium, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the foundation that powers analytics across the firm. You’ll design robust data pipelines, integrate new data sources, and create business-ready datasets that enable fast, accurate, and scalable reporting and analysis. Your work will ensure that Trillium’s analytics team can focus on delivering insights—confident that the data underneath is clean, reliable, and automated.
This is not just a maintenance role, it’s a chance to help define the firm’s enterprise data environment. You’ll play a key part in shaping standards, architecture, and best practices that scale as Trillium expands its analytics capabilities. As Trillium modernizes its data environment, you will drive the evaluation and adoption of cloud and modern data platforms.
You’ll partner closely with our Data Scientist, technologists, and cross-functional stakeholders in Finance, HR, Risk, and Trading. Together, you will connect disparate datasets into a cohesive, governed infrastructure that supports smarter, faster decision-making across the organization. As Trillium continues to expand its analytics capabilities, this role offers the opportunity to influence architectural choices and grow in scope as the function matures.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain reliable, automated data pipelines that feed dashboards, reports, and analytical models
- Develop and optimize database structures to support high-quality, business-ready datasets across trading, risk, HR, and finance
- Integrate new data sources and vendors into Trillium’s data ecosystem
- Implement and maintain strong data governance, access controls, and compliance standards across sensitive datasets
- Ensure data accuracy, speed, and reliability by implementing best practices in monitoring, validation, and quality control
- Partner with the Data Scientist to enable exploratory studies, predictive modeling, and firmwide analytics
- Collaborate with technologists to align infrastructure, tools, and integration standards
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve automation, reduce manual processes, and enhance the scalability of analytics at Trillium
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field3-6 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or database architecture (experience in financial services or trading a plus)Strong SQL expertise (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar) and experience designing normalized and denormalized data modelsProficiency with Python and other scripting languages for building and maintaining ETL pipelines and data loadersExperience with API, batch, and real-time streaming data ingestion methodologiesExperience optimizing large-scale datasets and query performance tuning (partitioning, indexing, caching)Experience with AWS services as they relate to data storage and data pipelinesExperience with CI / CD pipelines and infrastructure as code, is a plusFamiliarity with BI / reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or RStudio / Posit, is a plus but not a requirementExperience with data orchestration and workflow management (e.g., Airflow, dbt, or similar)Knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar), with the ability to guide evaluation, adoption, and integrationStrong grasp of data governance, quality control, security, and monitoring practicesA mindset of partnership—comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and helping others integrate, trust, and use data effectivelyLocation : This is a hybrid role based in NYC
Compensation and Perks
The reasonably estimated salary for this role is $105,000 - $140,000 + additional bonus if applicable.
