Purpose of Position
Performs computerized tomographic and radiographic procedures as requested by providers in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards.
Description
- Perform computed tomography scanning and radiographic procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis
Operates control console for patient's scan
Moves X-Ray equipment into proper positionSelects proper imaging techniques and protocolsOperates various peripheral hardware and equipment including mobile radiography equipmentOperate mobile equipment in the Operating Room, Emergency Room and at patient's bedsideMaintain, set-up and adjust equipment, checking calibration and recalibrating as necessary.Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure observing all health and safety precautions, quality assurance and infection control standards.Receive and review requests for radiologic studies. Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to insure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing computerized tomography procedures.
Assist physician and / or nurse with monitoring and treatment of patients during procedures.Record all required information to provide permanent records of significant and / or functional anatomical or pathologic data obtained.Apply principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to established practices and procedures.Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and / or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.Evaluates images for technical quality
Maintains proficiency in PACS systemMaintain adequate radiology records to assure proper identificationAssist physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the radiologistMaintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts State Licensing.Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests and insures patient confidentiality at all times.C onsistentl y provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers .Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.Qualifications
Ability to read, write and communicate in EnglishHigh school graduate or GEDGraduate an American Medical Association (AMA) Accredited Radiography ProgramRegistration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)Valid Massachusetts State License in Radiation ControlC urrently registered in Cat Scan ( CT ) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTBC) in Cat Scan (CT)3 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist OR 1 year experience as a Radiologic Technologist at CCH OR 1 year current (within the last 5 years) CT Tech experienceCurrent B asic Life Support required and must maintain certification
