  • NYS RN Licensure Required\n\t
  • BLS Certification\n\t
  • ACLS Certification\n\t
  • One (1) Year Experience serving in Med / Surg Environment as a Registered Nurse\n
  • \n\nPosition Overview\n\n \n\t

  • The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families\n\t
  • The RN assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode\n\t
  • The Med / Surg RN develops specialized skill in the area of cardiac care including telemetry monitoring\n\t
  • The RN is accountable for patient family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing\n\t
  • He / She promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment\n
  • \n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nApplies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care\n\n \n\t

  • Applies nursing knowledge and skill in delivery of care by assessing patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data / information obtained through direct observation and assessment, technology, or health team communication\n\t
  • Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified\n\t
  • In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and health care team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress\n\t
  • The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition / reprioritization of needs\n
  • \n\nQuality and Professional Development\n\n \n\t

  • Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient\n\t
  • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice, uses the results of Quality Improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and to influence care delivery\n\t
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial and takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill\n\t
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems\n\t
  • Demonstrates skill in application of nursing interventions including medication administration\n

  • Motivates the patient / family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home\n\t
  • Assesses the patient / family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding\n\t
  • Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information\n\t
  • Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process\n\t
  • Provides tools and information to assist the patient family after discharge\n\t
  • Documents the education provided and the patient / family response to the education\n

  • Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote members of the team working together to accomplish the best possible patient outcome\n\t
