Job Details : Purpose

Describe, preserve, and promote photograph archives according to archival standards.

Responsibilities

  • Describe and preserve photographic archival collections according to archival standards and the needs of the Center.
  • Participate in other Briscoe Center projects as needed, including events, presentations, updating the Briscoe Center wiki and associated documentation, large-scale collection stewardship projects, finding aid review, and more.
  • Collaborate with other photography archives unit staff, digitization unit staff, and digital archives staff.
  • Provide photo archives and general reference services to patrons of the Briscoe Center as needed.
  • Work in the reading room regularly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Information Science, Information Studies, Museum Studies, History, Photography, or a related field. Minimum of two years of experience processing or managing collections for long-term preservation, writing descriptions for archival materials in finding aids or collection management systems, and working with materials in an archival, museum, or library setting. Familiarity with metadata and descriptive standards relevant to archival collections, such as, DACS, EAD, or similar. Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Strong ability to work collaboratively, in a team environment, while managing and taking on tasks independently.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Enthusiastic and professional demeanor. Skilled at maintaining positive working relationships across varied personalities, and in a public-facing capacity. Knowledge of photographic formats and historic processes. Knowledge of archival preservation standards and best practices for the stewardship of a variety of archival formats. Experience processing large archival collections. Experience making selections for digitization projects or for general curation purposes. Knowledge of digitization technologies, digitization standards, and best practices. Experience with ArchivesSpace or similar platforms.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$53,000 - $58,000 depending on qualifications

    Employment Eligibility :

    Retirement Plan Eligibility :

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
