Overview :
The OT Network Engineer will provide technical infrastructure support for a utility organization, including systems such as the Energy Management System (EMS), distributed network and computing resources at power plants and substations, and physical security networks across all utility locations.
This role requires advanced expertise in networking, switching, firewall configuration, data communications, cybersecurity, and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities :
Network Design & Compliance
- Develop and maintain network support processes and design standards focused on :
- High availability, redundancy, operational continuity
- Configuration management and NERC compliance
- Cybersecurity protection and intrusion detection
Collaboration & Lifecycle Management
Work with internal teams and vendors to :Design network solutions that meet business and regulatory needsAct as a central contact for network-related concernsManage lifecycle, performance metrics, and reportingEnsure regulatory complianceSystem Changes & Support
Implement and support changes across OT infrastructure :Apply OS and application patches / upgradesConfigure, test, and deploy network equipment and softwareIntegrate vendor-supported software for system interfaces and reportingOperations & Maintenance
Monitor, diagnose, and resolve incidents and user issuesCoordinate deliverables with colleagues and stakeholdersParticipate in weekly team meetingsProvide recurring onsite support for field systemsAdminister network routes for site communicationDocumentation & Asset Management
Maintain asset databases and system design drawingsNetwork Systems Integration
Design, deploy, configure, and lead tasks involving :Network switches, firewalls, physical security systems, access control, intrusion detection / protectionTechnologies including Cisco Systems, Palo Alto Networks, FortinetTools such as Tripwire, SolarWinds, Dell EMC Avamar / BRM, RsyslogSecurity platforms like IBM QRadar SIEM, Cybereason, Tenable / NessusAssess current network design and recommend improvements for reliability and cybersecurityRequired Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field5+ years of experience in network engineering rolesHands-on experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or similar network devicesStrong understanding of firewall rule best practicesProficiency in network design concepts and best practicesExperience creating complete design and as-built network drawingsExcellent communication and collaboration skills
