Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of water and wastewater conveyance systems, including pipelines, pumping stations, and storage facilities, to ensure safe and reliable transport of drinking water and wastewater.
- Support senior engineers in the development of water and wastewater treatment plant designs, including preliminary layouts, process evaluations, and design calculations.
- Help review and analyze drainage and stormwater systems, including floodplain assessments, under the guidance of senior staff to ensure protection of the environment and public safety.
- Contribute to feasibility studies for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure based on current and projected community needs, land use changes, and system demands.
- Assist with evaluating treatment technologies and help prepare comparison matrices and recommendations for appropriate solutions.
- Draft specifications and design documents for pumping systems, force mains, and related components.
- Coordinate with contractors, municipal clients, and regulatory agencies during design and construction phases, with support from senior project staff.
- Ensure design work aligns with applicable codes and regulations, including local, state, and federal requirements.
- Prepare technical memos and sections of engineering reports, including basis-of-design documentation, alternatives analyses, and cost-benefit evaluations.
- Provide technical support to project teams and clients on water resources and utility-related topics as needed.
- Assist with cost estimates, project scoping, and proposal development, including collaboration with marketing staff on RFP responses and presentations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering (MS preferred but not required).Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.Coursework, internship, or project experience related to water, wastewater, or other municipal infrastructure (treatment plant or conveyance exposure is a plus).0–3+ years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in water resources, utility design, or public infrastructure.Interest in developing skills in project design, modeling, and coordination under the guidance of senior engineers.Willingness to learn and support small- to large-scale multidisciplinary water / wastewater projects.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Strong communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.Good organizational and time-management abilities, with a willingness to take initiative and meet deadlines.Collaborative, detail-oriented mindset with the ability to contribute positively to a team environment.Benefits
