Grading Superintendent

Salary : $100,000

Industry : Civil / Horizontal Construction

About the Role :

This leadership position oversees multiple grading crews across active construction sites. With dozens of concurrent projects in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, the Grading Superintendent plays a critical role in field operations, crew leadership, site productivity, and quality control. This is a growth-driven opportunity within a company experiencing expansion across its core divisions.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and coordinate all on-site grading activities for assigned projects.
  • Lead approximately 12 grading crews, each averaging 7 team members.
  • Ensure field operations meet design specifications, grading tolerances, and compaction standards.
  • Oversee mass excavation, site balancing, and finish grading efforts.
  • Manage day-to-day scheduling, sequencing of work, and crew assignments.
  • Conduct daily site inspections and enforce safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other internal departments.
  • Communicate clearly with subcontractors, surveyors, and equipment operators.
  • Manage GPS machine control and ensure correct equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Conduct daily site meetings including safety briefings and production updates.

Requirements :

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy civil grading / earthwork experience.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory, foreman, or superintendent capacity.
  • Strong technical knowledge of grading operations, site prep, and equipment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting civil / grading plans and survey stakes.
  • Familiarity with GPS-based grading systems (e.g., Trimble or equivalent).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and scheduling skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred but not required.
