Job description

A leading, high-growth commercial construction and real estate development company with over $500MM in annual revenue is seeking a  Chief Financial Officer  to join its executive team. This is a rare opportunity to help lead a company on the path toward $1B+ in revenue — shaping strategy, driving operational excellence, and building the financial foundation for sustainable growth.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the CFO will be a  key strategic partner , balancing vision with execution and guiding the company through its next phase of expansion. You’ll lead all aspects of financial management — from forecasting and capital planning to systems innovation and operational alignment — while serving as a visible, hands-on leader across all business units.

What You’ll Do

Serve as a senior advisor to the President & executive team, influencing long-term strategy, growth initiatives, and acquisitions.

Lead accounting, treasury, budgeting, reporting, and compliance across multiple divisions.

Strengthen job-cost visibility, WIP reporting, and cash flow performance to improve profitability.

Build scalable financial systems and controls to support rapid growth and future expansion.

Drive M&A strategy, integration, and capital structure planning.

Manage key relationships with banks, bonding companies, insurers, and external partners.

Champion innovation through financial technology, data analytics, and real-time reporting.

Develop and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team that reflects the company’s collaborative, high-integrity culture.

Experience

15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience; at least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance role.

Strong background in  construction, development, or related industries .

Proven success scaling a company from $500MM–$1B+ through operational discipline and strategic foresight.

Expertise in construction finance, including WIP, bonding, and project accounting.

Experience with M&A, strategic planning, and capital markets.

Exceptional communication skills — able to translate complex financials into actionable insight.

Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or Business;  CPA and / or MBA preferred.

Based in (or willing to relocate to)  Iowa  with consistent on-site presence.
