Description
Job Title : Patient Care Technician (Part Time)
Essential Duties :
- Assists patient in ambulating from area to area throughout the Center as necessary.
- Has knowledge of different medical equipment used by the patient (wheelchair, scooter, cane, oxygen apparatus) and assist patient as necessary.
- Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances, at the direction of a nurse.
- Assists the patient in dressing and undressing for procedures, as required.
- Assists patient to the restroom as needed.
- Assists in distributing post-operative nourishments.
- As assigned, may perform approved tasks under the delegation of the Director of Nursing or Staff Nurse.
- Carries out safety measures to prevent patient from harming him / herself or others.
- Maintains regulatory agency requirements, policies, procedures, and standards as trained and pertains to job duties.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers.
- Disinfect and prepare surgical stretchers, countertops, other equipment as stated in the infection control program for the Center.
Additional Responsibilities :
Approaches patient in a kind, gentle and friendly manner.Responds to patient's inappropriate behavior in a therapeutic manner.Takes appropriate actions in notifying the nursing staff of concerns for patient care.Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical / health care errors.Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious / spiritual needs of patients and their families.Protects patient's sensitivities and right to privacy.Appropriately responds to the patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation.Documentation of any conversation pertains to patient care in the medical record to meet current standards, policies and procedures.Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; does not waste time.Actively participates in the Center's job safety and illness prevention program, its inservice education program, and its quality assurance program.Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Education / Certification / Licensure :
Previous experience preferred, but not requiredCurrent BLS or must obtain within 90 days of employment, then must maintain BLS certification.Behavioral Skills :
Strong organizational and interpersonal skillsAbility to identify problems and recommend solutionsAbility to develop and maintain department quality assuranceAbility to apply and modify the principles of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.Other Requirements :
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot a variety of medical equipment and instruments to assist nurses with patient care.Ability to react calmly and effectively in busy or emergent situations.Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, via phone, and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, management and peers.Benefits :
