Role description :

Arcadis seeks a  Construction Inspector  to join the team in Los Angeles to perform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting; This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures, and appurtenances.

The Construction Inspector may allocate inspection resources on complex projects as a General Contractor, Building Construction Supervisor, Building Inspector of large commercial or industrial construction projects, heavy construction projects, transportation, or transit construction projects for the appropriate disciplines including utilities, geotechnical, civil roadway, structural, electrical, duct bank, communications.

Role Accountabilities :

  • Inspects each stage of construction up to completion. Interprets plans, specifications, and codes and verifies contract work is performed in accordance with all applicable governing codes and regulations.
  • Monitors construction sites for safety violations. Prepares Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to the approved standards. Maintains daily activity logs and reports with photographs, in a manner agreed to by LACMTA before the work. Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments. Monitors contractor-testing activities. Prepares reports on labor, material, and equipment on site. Determines construction conforms to plans and specifications.
  • Conduct quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities as necessary. Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with LACMTAs safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide Construction Safety and Security field services, as directed, including but not limited to Site Safety and Security Reviews including for Construction Equipment, Personnel, Work Procedures, and Traffic Control.
  • Prepares non-conformance reports when work is not performed to the approved standards.
  • Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates, and maintenance records. Timely submittals of these reports and records.
  • Arranges, coordinate, and oversee technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, and asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities and compares verifications of test results with results from the Contractors laboratory.
  • Maintains daily activity logs and daily inspection reports (DIR) including project photos in DIR. The DIRs shall be written in MS Word with a photo embedded into the DIR then a digital along with signed PDF copy shall be kept in a safe electronic file system.
  • Support and assist in reviewing submitted shop drawings for any deviations from contract documents.
  • Support and assist in reviewing and / or preparing interim progress reports for contractor payments.
  • Support and assist with monitoring contractor-testing activities.
  • Prepares reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
  • Support and assist in confirming construction conforms to plans and specifications; if not issue non-conformance reports for corrective action.
  • Support and assist with reviewing, approving, and rejecting construction materials based on conformance with specifications.
  • Performs inspections of building and facility projects to determine the quality of workmanship and materials used, such as foundations, building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems conform to the contract documents, applicable codes, Caltrans, and state and federal requirements.
  • Arranges, coordinate, and support and assist with overseeing special inspections such as structural masonry, structural steel, welding, and reinforced concrete; technical inspections such
  • as electrical, mechanical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete and asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel; checking test results for conformance to specification requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with LACMTAs safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • May allocate inspection resources and supervise inspectors also qualified to meet the duties above.

Required Qualifications :

  • Approximately five years of field experience on heavy construction projects, transportation, or transit construction projects for the appropriate disciplines including utilities, geotechnical, civil roadway, structural, electrical, duct bank, and communications.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field is desirable
  • Valid California Class C drivers license.
  • Able to obtain Cal-OSHA / OSHA 30-hour training certification prior to work.
