Job Summary :
Responsible for dental assisting duties listed in Florida Statutes 466 and Administrative Rules 64B-5, screening and preparing patients for treatment; assisting dentist in treating patients; educating patients; processing instruments; taking and developing radiographs.
Primary Responsibilities and Specific Duties :
Patient careo Verify patient by use of Double Identifier'so Obtain patient history.o Document patient's chief complaint.o Obtain patient's blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and / or glucose level, if necessary; enter on patient's chart.o Place, expose, and develop necessary diagnostic x-rays.o Assemble appropriate instrument tray.o Perform dental procedure or assist dentist in performing procedure, as appropriate.o Conduct patient education.Perform Expanded Functions approved by Florida Board of Dentistry (FAC 64B5-16.005)Taking impressions for study castsTopical application of fluoride (including foam & varnish)Placing and removing rubber damsPlacing and removing periodontal dressingsPolishing clinical crowns for removal of stainsPolishing amalgam restorationsPlacing and removing matricesPlacing intra-coronal provisional (temporary) restorationsPlacing bases and linersSuture removalApplication of pit & fissure sealantsPreliminary chartingPacking and removing retraction cordFabricating provisional crownsCementing provisional crowns with temporary cementNon-Patient Dutieso Maintain Log Manualso Maintain inventory.o Order and organize supplies.o Change filters, change solutions or chemicals, clean and maintain equipmentPerform operatory disinfections.Clean, bag and sterilize instruments.Remove expired items from the clinical areasMay be required to travel to other CHC locations.Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.Qualifications : Education :
High school diploma or equivalent requiredDental Assistant diploma or certificate of completion from an accredited school or training program including dental radiology requiredSuccessful completion of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate (EFDA) within 9 months from date of hire.Experience :
2 years' experience in a dental setting preferredMust have the ability to effectively use computer software and an electronic health record system.Certification / Licensure :
Current / valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate (EFDA) within 12 months from date of hire required.Current / valid BLS certification within 30 days from date of hire.Special skills :
Ability to stay positive in stressful situationsAbility to deal professionally with unhappy, fearful patientsOther requirements :
Able to work flexible hours and sites as neededMust have a valid Florida Driver's license
