Job Description

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Experience : Minimum 2 years in Acute Care Medical Surgical setting

License : Required

Certifications : BLS, NIHSS

Must-Have :

Basic Medical Surgical skills

Experience in cardiac care preferred

Description :

Strict 75-mile radius rule is enforced.

Minimum 1 year of experience in Acute Care Medical Surgical setting is required.

14-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1 : 5.

Staff includes Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.

Common diagnoses include admission hold patients and discharge pending patients.

Admission hold patients require medication administration both IV and PO as ordered.

Discharge pending patients require basic care including medications and pain control with PO orders only.

RNs will not be responsible for titrating IV drips.

Common titratable and / or set rate drips include heparin and lasix.

Charge Nurse may have to take patients.

There is 1 Certified Nursing Assistant on the unit.

RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment including nasal cannula.

There are no tele / monitor technicians on this unit; RNs must read their own strips.

Shifts are Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM.

The unit closes Friday at 7 PM.

Weekend work is not required, and holiday shifts are only if they fall during the week.

Floating to Medical Surgical Unit may occur if census is low.

Scrubs should be Caribbean blue top and bottom or white top with Caribbean blue bottom, or all white.

Typically, three shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided.
