WORK WEEK SCHEDULE : Monday-Friday

POSITION PURPOSE :

Join our team as a Safety Support Assistant, working alongside bus drivers to ensure a safe and efficient transportation experience for students. You will play a vital role by attending to the physical, medical, and behavioral needs of students as outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities;

Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to facilitate collaboration and provide feedback;

Adept at continuously monitoring the safety and well-being of students;

Ability to build effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and the broader community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or equivalent.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS :

Must attend and pass medical apparatus training within sixty days of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience working with students with special needs;

Experience in providing nursing care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Assist the bus driver in the safe transportation of students to and from school.

Attend to students' physical, medical, and behavioral needs as specified in their IEPs or health care plans, including assistance with loading / unloading, operating lifts, and handling medical apparatus.

Utilize approved methods to maintain order in the transportation vehicle and report any discipline issues to school administrators.

Support emergency evacuation and safety drills.

Collaborate with school staff to ensure the implementation of IEP components related to transportation.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

This position operates within a school transportation vehicle. Direct contact with students, school staff, and parents is common. The role requires frequent lifting or moving of up to 40 pounds and occasionally handling more than 100 pounds with assistance. The physical demands align with heavy-duty work expectations.
