The Director of Tennis & Pickleball is responsible for directing and managing the Club’s tennis & pickleball programs, maintaining tennis & pickleball facility operations, ensuring high quality of service to members and guests, meeting the standards and expectations of the Club with a strong focus on revenue generation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION :
Direct and manage the Club’s tennis and pickleball programs and ensure that the Club’s high standards of service and quality are met or exceeded.Be knowledgeable of and comply at all times with the Club’s standards, policies, and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.Interview, hire, train, and direct the work of tennis staff. Assure that effective orientation and training are given to each employee. Evaluate performance and safe work practices and ensure staff roles and expectations are clearly defined.Develop, implement, and supervise lesson programs for adults and juniors.Initiate, direct, and promote tennis and pickleball clinics and programs in an effort to attract and maintain members’ tennis interests.Manage proper inspection of the courts / facilities. Ensure adherence to Club rules and regulations governing the use of the facility and its equipment. Ensure proper maintenance and courts are in a safe working order.Work cooperatively with other departments to develop combined programs for the membership.Develop, administer, and enforce Club tennis and pickleball policies and procedures regarding play on Club courts.Explain and answer questions about the rules and regulations of tennis and pickleball.Prepare a monthly calendar of events. Develop and implement promotions and marketing to encourage and promote tennis and pickleball play.Interact with members, guests, staff, and visitors to the tennis facility to ensure member / guest satisfaction.Provide tennis and pickleball instruction and training to students at all levels.Monitor court usage including special events, clinics, and lessons.Develop annual budget and monitor business volume forecast plans in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses. Take corrective action as necessary to help ensure budget goals are met.Serve as a member of the Club’s management team and provide necessary reporting to the General Manager, Controller, and Corporate Staff.Maintain communication with senior managers to review operational and financial goals and inform them of any problems or unusual matters of significance.Attend all staff and management meetings.Perform other related duties as directed.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS :
Four (4) year college degree and a minimum of three years’ experience in tennis professional / instruction; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Certification with either the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) or an Elite Professional.First Aid Certification and Teaching Certification (Tennis) are required.Ability to promote and teach private and group lessons to juniors and adults.Exceptional interpersonal and member / guest relations skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to lead a class.Demonstrated ability to be a team leader of the tennis department and serve as a valuable member of the Club’s management team.Possess the ability to communicate effectively with members and staff of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and education levels.Must be able to effectively hire, train, motivate, and discipline employees.Excellent team player with the ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.Demonstrated results-oriented and capable of working with minimal direction.Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and experience with POS systems and club operation knowledge.TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS :
Frequent lifting and moving of objects.Continuous standing, walking, running, bending, stooping, and repetitive actions.Be able to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.Ability to control natural swing speed during instruction.Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions with the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Must work in a safe, prudent, and organized manner.Must be effective in listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by members, guests, and employees.TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS :
Varied weather conditions are expected with exposure to heat / humidity or cool / cold conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
