Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : RN Specialty : Long Term Acute Care Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 12H Nights Hours per Shift : 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience : Minimum 1 year License : Active IL license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications : BLS required, ACLS preferred Must-Have : Experience with PEG tube care / feedings, CVC / PICC / Midline usage and care, tracheostomy patients Description : This position requires RNs to titrate medications, specifically heparin. RNs will care for patients with respiratory failure, post-surgical needs, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac conditions. Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 5. Qualified nurses may float to other departments as needed. There are certified nursing assistants available with a ratio of 1 : 10. Nurses are required to monitor and troubleshoot all respiratory therapy equipment. Telemetrics are monitored by a designated tech, but RNs should be able to interpret strips. The unit operates with a charge nurse present on each shift, accompanied by a house supervisor available 24 / 7. Weekend and holiday shifts are rotated among the staff. Only approved scrubs are permitted, and specific t-shirt guidelines must be followed. Classroom instruction and hands-on training with a preceptor will be conducted as part of the orientation process.
