Job Title : Vice President of Advancement

Reports to : CEO

Supervisory Responsibilities : Advancement Directors, Advancement Specialist

Type of position : Full Time

Salary-Exempt Status : Overtime Exempt

Position Summary

This position works closely with the VP of Major Gifts and VP of Marketing and Community Engagement to assure the organization’s advancement culture, systems and procedures supports overall Advancement execution. This position provides leadership for our Corporate Partnerships and Impact Fund in support of the organization’s revenue goals and mission in every way. Works closely with the CEO and VP of Major Gifts to ensure Advisory Boards are in alignment with Governing Board Gold Standard of operations expectations and supporting the Chapter’s Advancement and Mission Delivery annual goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership & Strategic Responsibilities

As a member of the senior leadership team, this position helps set the strategic direction, culture, and financial and organization health of the institution. The individual is expected to be an exceptional fundraising professional and organizational development specialist.

The individual is expected to :

  • Establish strong, constructive, and appropriate relationships with VP of Major Gifts, staff, governing board, volunteers, donors, and our communities.
  • Oversee and lead execution of the Corporate and Impact Fund Advancement activities and plans in assuring execution of the Chapter Advancement Plan goals.
  • Oversee and provide leadership to our Advancement Directors in ensuring Advancement Plan success by translating broad strategic goals into achievable tactical steps; setting and managing appropriate expectations; and effectively leading, managing and coaching the Advancement team across the chapter.
  • Provide vision-based leadership in a complex organizational and fundraising environment.
  • Lead performance of the team through regular and timely communication, one-on-ones, interims, and annual reviews.
  • Work closely with the CEO to establish annual Advancement goals that will propel the organizational towards aspirational Wish goals.
  • Work closely with the CEO and VP of Major Gifts in successfully leading Advisory Boards towards Board of Governor’s Gold Standard Board expectations and successfully supporting implementation of the Chapter’s Advancement Plan.
  • Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues.
  • Lead the tracking of progress toward revenue goals and job-related expenses through proper use of the Salesforce and chapter-specific forms and processes.
  • Use discretion and independent judgement with broad authority and reasonable latitude to negotiate and / or make decisions [related to revenue development], which may financially impact the organization in substantial ways and depart from established standards.
  • Represent OKI as a liaison with National on Advancement related calls and taskforces, such as the CDO call.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Deliverables & Implementation Responsibilities

  • Proactively participate as a member of the and Sr. Leadership Team to drive the definition and integration of a “Culture of Philanthropy” across the organization with a focus on advancement activities.
  • Work closely with CEO and all SLT to engage the Advisory Boards in the organization’s Advancement Plan.
  • Develop and lead our Directors of Advancement in achieving Advancement Plan strategies, goals, and activities.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement team in achieving Marketing & Communications Plan strategies that align with Advancement Goals.
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the team by participating in establishing overall goals, policies, and a culture of working together to achieve the organization’s mission.
  • Work closely with the Mission Leadership Team to establish a collaborative market approach when working with wish families, volunteers, and in-kind partners, current and future.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination or education and work experience.
  • 10+ years of successful development or marketing work experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a changing environment while keeping the CEO appropriately appraised of issues, problems, opportunities, and progress.
  • Able to provide management and direction as the CEO’s designee consistent with Make-A-Wish core values and business practices.
  • A management style that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, facilitates communications, and builds consensus.
  • Commitment to and a passion for the mission of the Make-A-Wish.
  • Flexibility to travel overnight up to 40% of the time.
  • Physical Demands

    While performing this job, employees may be required to talk, stand, or sit for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, key data, stoop, twist, bend, crawl, speak and hear. Employees may drive a motor vehicle and may be required to travel during business hours. Person must also be able to move / lift to 20 pounds. While performing this job employee is exposed to weather prevalent at the time with varying noise levels.
