The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 2-3 for adults. Common types of patients include those with trauma, cardiac issues, overdose / substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent procedures, pacemaker placements, strokes, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress. RNs are required to titrate drips, including any cardiac drip, insulin, and sedation. Nurse aides are available based on census to assist on the floor as needed. Healthcare support staff is present three days a week. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, such as vents and CPAP / BiPap machines. Shifts are from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Self-scheduling is available for core staff, while travelers will also have scheduling integrated. Floating is typically to progressive care units or occasionally to medical-surgical units with the same patient ratios. There is a requirement to work a minimum of two holidays during the contract timeframe. Every other weekend shift is required. RTO needs to be provided upfront, and any additional time off will not be approved. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. The trauma level for this facility is 2. The care setting is acute.
