About This Position

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Business, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality Management, the Instructor of Hospitality Management is responsible for teaching 15 credits per semester day / evening / weekend classes, maintaining office hours, providing advisement for students, assisting in curriculum development and review, and participating in College and Professional Development activities.

School Introduction

The School of Business, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality Management (BCH) helps students attain the knowledge and skillset required for today's in-demand career industries such as accounting, business, culinary arts, baking and pastry, hospitality management, and other business-related fields. We offer remote, hybrid, and online classes.

The Culinary Arts Institute (CAI) is located in Journal Square and was founded in 1983. Our current state-of-the-art facility, built in 2006, contains 12 labs. Some physical features of the CAI include quantity food preparation kitchens, bakeshops, dining rooms, a bar, ice carving lab, hospitality suite, and Foundation Subscription Dining Room.

About This Role and What You'll Do

  • Teach 15 credits per semester of Hospitality Management courses, in the day / night / weekend / online / remote / hybrid modalities.
  • Prepare and distribute to students and submit to the school dean at the beginning of each semester an outline for each assigned course section indicating the course description and requirements, textbook(s), and supplementary materials, assignments, test dates, and grading and attendance policies.
  • Maintain a record of student attendance and grade roster for each assigned course section. Submit midterm and final grade rosters and attendance records to the school dean and the registrar on required dates.
  • Maintain office hours at times appropriate for both day and evening students.
  • Refer to the school advisor students in assigned classes who miss two consecutive sessions. Maintain ongoing contact with academic support services personnel and refer students for tutoring, organized study groups, and counseling as appropriate.
  • Resolve any student problems that arise regarding Hospitality Management courses with the school Dean.
  • Assist with school dean and program coordinators with the preparation for course schedules, development and / or review of curriculum, section of textbooks and other related academic duties such as conducting peer reviews.
  • Assist with accreditation activities, articulation with higher education institutions and advisory committees as appropriate for the school.
  • Participate in professional development activities including faculty orientation scheduled at the beginning of each semester.
  • Participate in school and college wide meetings and committees.
  • Represent the school and / or college at meetings and community events as requested.
  • Integrate as appropriate, computer-assisted instruction, language laboratories, word-processing and library / learning resources into classroom instruction.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Hospitality Management or closely related field such as Food Service, Hospitality Entrepreneurship, or Travel and Tourism
  • 5+ years of management experience within the Hospitality Industry
  • Minimum 3+ years teaching experience in higher education, preferably at a community college
  • Understanding of and commitment to the role of a comprehensive community college in an urban multi-cultural setting.
  • Residency : As a New Jersey First Act Employer, new employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year.
