SUMMARY
To perform a wide variety of duties representing the State of Texas in all criminal and civil matters as laid out in State law. Also, to perform duties advising County Departments and Commissioners Court in legal matters.

Reports Directly to the County Attorney.

Direct Reports - Deputy Clerk(s), Investigator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree
- JD from accredited law school
- License to practice law from the Texas State Bar
- Clear and valid Texas driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

Prior prosecutorial experienceExperience in civil law or local governmentKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Duties may include but not limited to the following :
Handle Class A and B misdemeanor cases from intake though appeal as assigned by the County AttorneyHandle all Class C misdemeanors from intake through appealHandle Motions to Adjudicate and Motions to Revoke from filing through appeal in Class B and A misdemeanors as assigned by the County AttorneyHandle Protective Order cases, mental commitments, Adult and Child Protective Services and Environmental CasesHandle Juvenile cases from intake through appeal as assigned by the County AttorneyHandle all Bond Forfeiture Cases from intake through appealAttend and conduct court hearings as needed to perform all of the above duties.Conduct research on various legal issues and questions as they arise in order to provide authority for the position or advice given to the various County DepartmentsAdvise all law enforcement as neededAdvise County Departments as neededAdvise Commissioners Court as needed and attend Commissioners Court meetings as directed by the County Attorney.Maintain calendar and answer telephone calls from the public as neededBe on call outside of regular office hours for law enforcement and other County DepartmentsTravel to seminars for Continuing Legal Education requirementsMaintain a working knowledge of property, oil and gas, and contract lawKeep current in all areas of the law in which the County Attorney's office performs servicesReview and respond to open records requests for all County departmentsRequest Texas Attorney General opinions for all County departmentsProsecutor for all truancy cases in Washington CountyPHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
