The Laboratory Operations Technician II will use organizational skills to support and enhance the day-to-day operations of the GMP laboratory facility. The position will ensure that supplies are available and ordered when needed. All shipping and receiving of materials are managed daily to meet the needs of the departments and to ensure that the lab and shipping environments are well-organized and safe to support scientific testing and release. The Laboratory Technician must have experience in inventory control and ordering services. The position does require the ability to work independently and as a member of a broader lab services and operations team to ensure all responsibilities are completed in a timely manner. Another primary component of this role is to aid and assist in the management of the laboratory equipment and services related to the equipment (supplier management).
Duties include day-to-day service and maintenance of the company’s laboratories in three general areas :
- Laboratory services (supply inventory tracking & control, procurement, material management, biological sample management), and on-site lab support activities (shipping and receiving, small instrumentation maintenance and calibration, and lab organization and safety standards compliance)
- Automation and laboratory technologies (equipment performance monitoring systems, wearable devices, automated liquid handling solutions, software solutions for biological sample and supplies inventory control)
Laboratory Operations Technicians perform routine tasks within manufacturing and the labs with evolving scopes based on business needs
Responsibilities :
Support all laboratory services work including materials, chemical, and equipment management and tasks as assigned by the managerSupport shipping and receiving of manufacturing and laboratory supplies, chemicals, and biological samplesMaintain shipping and lab cleanliness by performing daily lab walkthroughPerform weekly safety walkthroughsAssist in writing operating procedures for laboratory equipment and instructions for routine laboratory activitiesPerform routine maintenance to assist in equipment management and ongoing maintenance such as scheduling incubator decontamination, materials reorganization, and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment, etc.Interface with suppliers for routine and emergency maintenance if neededInterface with suppliers on meeting consumable delivery timelines and backorder replacementWork as a liaison between lab personnel and facilities if fluctuations in demand of supply of liquid nitrogen, CO2 tanks, and dry ice supply ariseRegularly update reference materials (SOPS, Work Instructions, Job Aids, etc.) with informational changes and identify ways to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity through process improvementsParticipate in projects and lab services meetingsWork as a member of the lab support team; perform routine and other duties as assignedOther duties as requiredRequirements / Qualifications :
1-2 years of experience in a scientific laboratory or lab services role in a university or pharma / biotech environmentDOT / IATA Professional certification (certification class available on the job)GHS and Hazardous CommunicationHAZWOPER certification a plus, but not requiredExperience with shipping and receiving of GMP materialsExperience with purchasing and inventory management in a GMP environment is requiredKnowledge of aseptic technique and experience working in BSL2 laboratory environmentsCustomer oriented, excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organizationAbility to execute duties with high attention to detail and to adjust workload based on prioritiesMust have exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skillsExcellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize workAbility to work independently and be proactive with a “can-do” attitudeAbility to read, interpret, and comply with documents such as internal SOPs, operating and maintenance instructions, and company policiesMust be comfortable with biological specimen handlingKnowledge of VMI (Thermo) and Oracle is a plus
