Accounting Supervisor Construction

Accounting Supervisor Key Responsibilities

Construction Accounting & Project Costing

  • Oversee job cost accounting including budgets, forecasts, cost coding, and tracking of project expenditures.
  • Manage and review WIP schedules, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of project profitability and financial health.
  • Apply percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition methodologies in compliance with GAAP and company policy.
  • The Accounting Supervisor will partner with project managers to analyze variances between actual and budgeted costs, providing insights to improve margin performance.
  • Review contract terms, change orders, and billing schedules to ensure proper accounting treatment.

Month-End Close & Reporting

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for construction projects.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and detailed job costing reports.
  • Ensure timely completion and accuracy of financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements.
  • Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Supervise and mentor a small team of staff accountants and project billing specialists.
  • Develop and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and best practices specific to construction accounting.
  • Implement process improvements around job cost tracking, billing, and reporting to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, operations, and leadership teams to align financial reporting with business needs.
  • Accounting Supervisor Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a construction environment.
  • Proven expertise in WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and job costing.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction industry best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Salary $115-130K
