Position Summary
The Director of Transportation Procurement is a strategic and analytical leader responsible for managing all aspects of the company's transportation procurement and carrier management programs. This role focuses on leveraging data, market intelligence, and performance analytics to drive cost-effective and service-focused transportation solutions across multiple modes, including LTL, small package, and final mile delivery. The Director will play a key role in developing and executing sourcing strategies, optimizing pricing programs, and building strong carrier partnerships that align with organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the strategic leader for all transportation procurement functions, including LTL, small package, and final mile programs.
- Use data-driven insights and performance analytics to inform carrier selection, rate negotiations, and optimization strategies.
- Develop, negotiate, and manage carrier contracts and pricing programs to achieve service excellence and cost efficiency.
- Manage customer-specific pricing strategies, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company profitability goals.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to support and understand fulfillment operations, ensuring transportation strategy complements warehouse, order flow, and delivery execution.
- Identify and cultivate strategic carrier partnerships, ensuring reliable service performance, capacity alignment, and competitive pricing.
- Responsible for coordination and collaboration with other departments and external resources to drive execution or resolve issues.
- Oversee and continually improve the company's final mile carrier network and related service offerings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with all departments to align procurement strategies with broader organizational objectives.
- Develop and manage carrier scorecards, dashboards, and performance reporting to monitor service, pricing, and compliance metrics.
- Utilize Power BI and other analytical platforms to provide real-time visibility into transportation performance and financial outcomes. Analyze carrier performance metrics, market trends and cost structures to identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a supporting team by leading self, leading the team, and leading the business through accountability, vision, and collaboration.
- Drive innovation in sourcing practices, system utilization, and automation to improve efficiency and decision-making.
- Support executive leadership with regular reporting, market updates, and strategic recommendations.
- Perform other related duties, special projects or assignments as required
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related field.Minimum 5 years of experience in domestic transportation, with emphasis on pricing, procurement, or carrier management.Minimum 2 years of leadership experience, guiding teams and / or managing cross-functional initiatives.Proven experience in LTL contract negotiations and small package contract negotiations, including rate and accessorial management.Understanding of fulfillment operations and the relationship between warehouse activity and transportation strategy.Demonstrated ability to deliver annual procurement savings and articulate the financial impact of sourcing strategies.Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience summarizing data, outlining direction, and presenting to all organizational levels.Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to keep workstreams, documentation, contracts, and projects well-structured, organized and up to date.Ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent projects, tasks, and deadlines in a fast-paced and evolving environment.Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership; able to identify and resolve issues proactively with limited daily direction.Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on guidance, facilitate organizational change, and lead a team through clear vision and mentorship.Practices open and continuous communication, values keeping others informed, and effectively presents information in a clear, concise manner.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Experience with Power BI, dashboarding tools, carrier scorecards, and transportation management systems (e.g., SMC, RateWare, DAT) preferred.Strong general management instinct with the ability to lead high-profile, complex initiatives and project teams.King Solutions offers a competitive benefit package that includes but it not limited to : salary, medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, company paid Life Insurance, 401k, PTO and much more!
