Job Summary

The Lead Design Engineer will lead a team of draftsmen and mechanical engineers to support external customers, internal engineering teams, and shop floor associates in activities ranging from quoting design activities to designing shipping fixtures and internal tooling. This role acts as a support organizational within Petersen for engineering, continuous improvement, and operations teams as a technical resource. Typical activities include :

• Collaborating on build plans with focus on design for manufacturability
• Reviewing customer prints as part of quoting activities
• Designing custom tooling and fixturing for machining and fabrication departments
• Creating prints, models, shop drawings, and detail views to support shop floor builds, machine programming, and improve project quality and efficiency
• Developing Lifting / rigging plans and tooling to support safe operations
• Completing stress tests and analysis of tooling and components
• Preparing material specifications and design calculations as required
• Supporting customer design requests, clarifications, etc. during job completion

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computer, photocopier, calculator, etc. Requires vision correctable to within normal range for designing, spreadsheets, etc. Requires ability to give and receive communication to different levels of the organization.
